Brooks Koepka is making headlines once again as he seeks reinstatement to the PGA Tour, just weeks after parting ways with LIV Golf, according to various reports. This comes less than a month after his departure from LIV Golf, where he still had a year left on his contract.
When the five-time major champion announced his exit from LIV Golf on December 23, 2025, many anticipated that he would eventually try to return to the PGA Tour. To facilitate this return, Koepka must secure his playing status since he has not competed since the 2021-22 season. However, being a recent major champion may exempt him from the necessity of competing in lower-tier qualifying events.
The terms surrounding his reinstatement are somewhat uncertain. The PGA Tour holds the authority to impose disciplinary measures or require restitution prior to allowing players like Koepka to re-enter tournament play. Currently, there is a one-year suspension in effect for any golfer who participates in unauthorized competitions, which includes those organized by LIV Golf.

Initially, there was speculation that Koepka might choose to spend the entirety of 2026 at home with his family before making a return to the PGA Tour in 2027. His representatives indicated that this family-first approach was indeed part of his decision-making process.
"Family has always guided Brooks' decisions, and he feels this is the right moment to spend more time at home," stated Koepka's management team. While PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp may seek to persuade the Board of Directors to reconsider some current policies and welcome Koepka back into the fold, there is a palpable sense of resentment among some members of the PGA Tour toward players who left the league for LIV Golf, which they view as having disrupted the sport.
Between 2014 and 2022, Koepka notched up nine PGA Tour victories, climbed to the No. 1 ranking worldwide, and secured four major titles, along with prestigious wins at tournaments like the WM Phoenix Open and the St. Jude Championship. In 2018, he was honored as the PGA Tour Player of the Year, an accolade determined by votes from his fellow golfers.
